TALK TO US ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

farmhouse renovation

Our client entrusted the team to transform their much-loved historic home into a comfortable, modern family residence.

Despite its charm and stunning location, the farmhouse was cold, draughty, and simply not fit for comfortable modern living after over a century without any significant upgrade to its heating or insulation. The clients needed a home that worked for a contemporary lifestyle, including the space and infrastructure to work from home effectively, without losing the character of a much-loved historic building.

The challenge was to bring a Victorian farmhouse up to a modern standard of comfort and energy efficiency without compromising its original character. Choosing wooden sash double-glazed windows was key - maintaining the authentic look of the building while delivering a dramatic improvement in warmth and draught-proofing. Internal wall insulation and underfloor heating on the ground floor completed the transformation, creating a home that is warm, efficient, and a genuine pleasure to live in year-round, with those Aberdovey views to enjoy in comfort from every season.

Hen Hafod

Hen Hafod sits in a prominent position with sweeping views over Aberdovey, a beautiful and enviable setting that provided both the inspiration and the motivation to create a home truly worthy of its surroundings.

A farmhouse dating from the late 1800s that, until this renovation, had never benefited from central heating and retained its original single-glazed windows throughout. The project delivered a comprehensive modernisation from top to bottom: all windows were replaced with new bespoke wooden sash units, double glazed to retain the period character of the building while transforming its thermal performance.

The external walls were insulated internally, underfloor heating installed across the ground floor, and the property completely rewired.

Every internal detail was renewed — new doors, skirtings, architraves, fixtures and fittings throughout — resulting in a home that feels entirely fresh whilst honouring its historic bones.

The finished property provides six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two dedicated home offices, thoughtfully designed around the way the clients actually live and work.
